Meeting:
Creative Re-Use of Historic Buildings
NOTE: Reservation deadline is TOMORROW, Oct. 5! sharon@synergy-resource.com
On October 9, 2006 the Minneapolis/St. Paul Chapter of CSI will
present an evening dinner presentation on the conversion of the
Sears – Lake Street Warehouse/Store to the multiuse facility
that is fast becoming the primary regeneration point for community
pride and service. Please join us for an overview presentation
of the primary design and construction challenges for the very
large conversion of this famous seventy five year old historic
building.
Mike Ernst, Project Manager for Ryan
Companies US, will discuss the process of putting together the
team to deal with the project’s many challenges. He will
describe the vast material and manpower needs that were required
to successfully complete this project.
Craig Milkert, Principal and Professional
Engineer with Collaborative Design Group (CDG), will review the
many design challenges and obstacles that were faced with such
an old and “bulky” building as CDG worked through
the design of the various uses in the building while satisfying
the historical designation requirements.
John Russo, Principal wit
h Construction
Consulting and Inspections, Inc., will discuss the various considerations
in converting an old non-insulated, and (primarily) air conditioned
building in to a “modern” building. The interplay
of barrier wall, HVAC, exterior repairs, and interior finishes
was a tightrope that had to be walked. The concepts in
“envelope
engineering” will be briefly reviewed.

state of proprietary specification law in Minnesota and a number
of hypotheticals regarding the use of proprietary specifications.
This is an excellent opp
