Company supplies two statewide masonry award winners

BURNSVILLE – The Minnesota Concrete Masonry Association crowned its champions at the association’s inaugural awards banquet Jan. 16, and County Materials supplied two winning entries in the 2007 MCMA Excellence in Masonry Awards.

Winning the Municipal category was Twin Lakes Elementary School in Elk River, designed by Schrock DeVetter Architects of Minneapolis. Kraus-Anderson Construction, of Circle Pines, served as General Contractor on the project, and Camco Construction of St. Cloud was the mason. County Materials supplied 87,500 units of Heritage Collection® Designer Concrete Brick and structural gray block as a part of a double-wythe exterior for the school. County Materials also supplied oversize masonry units that comprise the base, Horizon™ sill units, and more than 41,000 square feet of the Hollowcore Roof & Floor System.

These materials, which were produced within 500 miles of the project, are helping to nudge the school closer toward its goal of a Gold certification from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design® (LEED®) and the LEED Green Building Rating System™.

Winner of the Special Project division was Roseville High School for its masonry wall, inside a locker room, featuring an etching of the school’s Raiders mascot using Premier Glazed™ masonry units. The etching was designed by Heller Architects, of St. Paul, and was installed by James Steele Construction, also of St. Paul. In addition to the etched block, County Materials supplied more than 2,000 units of Premier Glazed block in Custom Buff and Garnet.

County Materials operates 30 locations serving the Midwest. The family-owned, American manufacturing company is an industry leader and a diversified supplier of construction and landscaping products for residential, commercial, industrial and municipal project applications.
