Seminar A: Practice 2010 - Future Directions of Professional Practice
In this town hall style session, Mike Hnastchenko, Principal and Director of Technology at Ellerbe Becket, Renee Cheng, Associate Head of the School of Architecture College of Design at the University of Minnesota, and Karie Johnson, Director of Virtual Construction at Adolfson & Peterson Construction will lead an open discussion with seminar participants about the technological challenges facing the construction profession(s) in 2010 and beyond.
The highly linear process of traditional design is fading away. In the new BIM environment, multiple participants including Architects, Engineers, Contractors and Owners have to think simultaneously about the design, and understand how to best collaborate in a way that provides an integrated sustainable solution. As building information modeling moves to the center of our practice, this session will look beyond its implications for design and try to engage participants in discussions related to collaboration, education, integrated project delivery, working globally, and the challenges of sustainable design. AIA Learning Units & CSI Continuing Education Units Available. HSW Credit Approved.
Seminar B: Site Waste Recycling - Thinking Beyond the Landfill
With a trend toward sustainable building design, construction waste recycling is becoming a prevalent requirement in the building industry. This presentation will describe the complete process of construction waste; how to identify different types of recyclable materials, and recycling markets within the Twin Cities. The program will also discuss recycling verification, how to track your waste and recycling rates, and how
to ensure your waste is being recycled at the rate you require. Finally, the program will address architectural specifications, and how to effectively write and implement a concise, accurate and achievable construction waste recycling specification. AIA Learning Units & CSI Continuing Education Units Available. HSW Credit Approved.
Reed Lewis is the Co-Founder of Atomic Recycling, the industry leading construction waste recycling management company in the Twin Cities, providing services to Contractors and Owners of public and private facilities.
